Update on the Address to Members of Liverpool City Council.

Further to our previous post, An address to the Members of Liverpool City Council  the following is an extract from the minutes of the Council meeting.

Peter Foo and Steve Lau addressed the City Council in relation to the Chinese community within the City in the context of the Motion set out in Minute No. 15. and entitled ‘Chinatown’.

Mayor Anderson, OBE thanked the speaker and thanked the speakers for their Statement, indicated that a Motion on this issue was scheduled for debate during the meeting (Statements included as Appendix 2 to these Minutes). Mayor Anderson OBE stated that he had written to Rt. Honourable Theresa May MP Home Secretary, highlighting the issues raised by the Chinese community in Liverpool and indicating that he would become personally involved in the campaign concerning the injustice in 1946 of the mass deportation of Chinese seamen based in Liverpool and the treatment of Chinese Labour corps.

The Council went on to unanimously agreed to establish a Chinatown Forum to address such concerns.
