UCL Friends of the Chinese Labour Corps

We are delighted to announce the launch of the UCL Friends of the Chinese Labour Corps – a pioneering student-led body of University College London. Formally registered as a student volunteer organisation at UCL, UCL Friends are affiliated to the Campaign.

Jonathan Liu, founding President of the UCL Friends of the Chinese Labour Corps said,

Being able to contribute to the ‘Ensuring We Remember’ campaign is a great privilege and honour. The hard-work and sacrifice of the 96,000 volunteers was invaluable to the war effort and deserves the recognition the campaign is fighting for. In backing the campaign we are also shedding light on the long relationship between Chinese people and Britain, which is empowering for those in Britain today.

Steve Lau, Chair of the Campaign’s Strategic Partnership Board said,

We were delighted to be approached by Jonathan Liu with a view to establishing a support group at UCL, one of the country’s most prestigious Universities. Jonathan’s vision and enthusiasm has meant we have been able to establish this first “Friends of the Chinese Labour Corps” group. Once the group has been running a little while we plan to build upon any lessons learned and establish similar groups across Universities in the UK. Our thanks to Jonathan and his fellow students at UCL for taking up the cause.
